Strategy #3 of OBBO’s key initiatives: Ensuring the highest standards of clinical quality for perinatal care – the period leading up to and immediately following the delivery of a baby – can reduce the rate of preterm births in our community and improve outcomes for the smallest and most vulnerable infants.
2016 Work Plan Aim:
Progesterone:
Decrease the rate of premature births <37 weeks from 33.8% in 2015 to 33.3% in 2016 and <32 weeks from 9.7% in 2015 to 8.9% in 2016 for identified progesterone candidates in OBBO Clinics
Postpartum Care:
Increase the attendance rate for postpartum care visits in OBBO clinics
Interventions/Activities/Recommendations:
Progesterone:
- Educate community partners and pregnant women about the benefits of progesterone
- Develop policies and practices to screen women for a history of preterm birth and schedule rapid OB appointments
- Provide consistent, accurate information to doctors and health care professionals about early identification and initiation of progesterone for eligible women
Postpartum Care:
- Educate community partners and pregnant women about the importance of postpartum care
- Develop community standards on the content of postpartum visits
