Our Mission

Ohio Better Birth Outcomes (OBBO) mission is to reduce the infant mortality rate in key communities by improving the delivery of health services for women and their families using quality improvement science to guide our work.

Our collaborative of health care providers works together to reduce the racial health disparity gap in our communities by enacting and sharing strategies for improving reproductive, prenatal and perinatal care for mothers and achieve better birth outcomes for their babies.

Our History

OBBO’s work is based on the recommendations of the Greater Columbus Infant Mortality Task Force, which was established in 2014 to address our community’s alarmingly high infant mortality rate. This report also led to the creation of CelebrateOne, a community-wide initiative aimed at improving the health of babies and ensuring that they reach their first birthdays.

We are a lead partner of CelebrateOne and work together to enact strategies to combat the causes of infant mortality, including babies born too soon or too small, unsafe sleep conditions, birth defects and the social and economic conditions that drive disparities.
